Jokes Through the Bathroom Door, the debut stand-up album from Bethlehem-based comedian Jason J. Brown, has edged The Daily Show star Lewis Black for a spot on Billboard Top Stand Up Comedy Chart.
The album landed at No. 5 this week, one ahead of Black's Black to the Future and one behind Wheeler Walker Jr.'s Ol' Wheeler -- making Brown the third comedian from the Circus Trapeze Record label to chart on Billboard.
Jokes Through the Bathroom Door was recorded in October 2017 at SteelStacks in Bethlehem and released earlier this month.
Circus Trapeze Records was founded in 2016 by Lopatcong Township-based comedian Glen Tickle. Tickle's debut, (Yes Really) and Nazareth native Tyler Rothrock's Tyler of Nazareth PA were also released through Circus Trapeze Records.
"The entire situation reminds of a Jon Stewart quote, and I'm paraphrasing: 'When I got the MTV show, I thought I had made it in comedy. When I lost it I thought my career was over. Remember that no one moment defines who you are'," Brown said. "So as I am excited about the Billboard ranking, I am also keeping my eye on the future and the hard work that's still ahead."
Both Tickle and Rothrock's albums cracked the Top 20 on the Billboard Top Stand Up Comedy Chart, with (Yes Really) and Tyler of Nazareth PA debuting at No. 13 and 8, respectively.
Jokes Through the Bathroom Door is available on CD and digitally through Circus Trapeze Records' Bandcamp page.
