10 things to do this weekend in the Lehigh Valley

October 2, 2015

Nothing to see, nowhere to go this weekend? Let me help you with that. Here are 10 things to do this weekend in the Lehigh Valley:

1.) Eat, drink, stink

Garlic Fest returns 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, and Sunday, Oct. 4 to Downtown Easton. Get your stink on and indulge on all things sweet, savory and smelly: garlic steamers, garlic fries, garlic clam chowder, garlic chowder, garlic Kielbasa, grilled chicken and garlic wraps, Smoked Garlic Bloody Marys, garlic crab sake sandwiches and yes, garlic ice cream. There will also be beer tents, beer tastings, Oktoberfest games, live music, children's activities and more. Event is rain or shine. Schedule and information: eastongarlicfest.com

2.) Oktoberfest

ArtsQuest's annual Oktoberfest celebration kicks off noon Saturday and continues noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at the SteelStacks complex in SouthSide Bethlehem. In addition to German dishes, desserts and beer, there will be Wiener Dog races, live music and a cornhole tournament. Schedule and information: steelstacks.org

3.) Ladies' night

"The Girlie Show Art Extravaganza: The Archetype" is 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Suddenly Samantha in Easton. Curated by Jessica "Jet" Jones, "The Archetype" exhibition will spotlight works by artists Jones, Erika Lyn Horwitz, Ann McCollum, Carly Brown, Natasha Morales, Heather Haas and Alison Bessesdotter. As as an added bonus, singer-songwriter Amanda Thorpe will perform during the show.

4.) Triple play

Indulge in an intimate evening of acoustic rock and singer-songwriters 8 p.m. Saturday when Flemington natives Nalani & Sarina headline Bethlehem's Godfrey Daniels. This talented sister duo will receive support from opening acts Not for Coltrane and John Hufford. Tickets cost $16.50. Reservations are recommended. Information: godfreydaniels.org

5.) Brick by Brick

Easton's Brick + Mortar Gallery presents the opening reception for the solo exhibitions "new objective" (works by Danny Moyer) and "snow-eater" (works by Katie Knoeringer), 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday. Both exhibitions will be displayed through Nov. 7. Information: brickandmortargallery.com

6.) With Grace

Singer-guitarist Grace Potter brings her solo tour 8 tonight to the Sands Bethlehem Event Center in Bethlehem. Tickets cost $29.50. Information: sandseventcenter.com

7.) Shania's back

Country music superstar Shania Twain is back on the road for one final hurrah. Tonight she stops at the PPL Center in Allentown. Show time is 7:30 p.m. Tickets $43-$160. Information: pplcenter.com

8.) Cat call

Carter Lansing, of Acoustic Kitty Project, heads to Weyerbacher Brewing Company in Easton 5:30 tonight. Knock back a pint or two of Weyerbacher's finest brewed craft beer while rocking out to an early evening musical delight. Oh, and tell him The Goat sent you. (Trust me, he'll understand.)

9.) Howling good

Blues guitarist Todd Wolfe and his band will celebrate the release of their new album, Long Road Back, with a concert 7:30 tonight at the Epic Church in Fountain Hill. Singer Sarah Ayers will open.

10.) Viva violin

Violinist Svet -- who impressed the judges of NBC's America's Got Talent with his blending of classical music, reggae and hip-hop -- takes the stage of the historic State Theatre in Easton 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets cost $25, $15 for students (with ID). Information: statetheatre.org

Bonus pick: Chalkboard Art Auction is 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bethlehem Brew Works in Bethlehem. Bid on chalkboards drawn by Fegley's Brew Works beer label artist Alexander Clare and artist Rachel Royer. Information: thebrewworks.com
