Five local concerts worth checking out this week: Oct. 11-17

October 11, 2015

So you enjoy supporting local music, eh? Excellent. Here are five Lehigh Valley shows worth checking out this week:

NIKKI HILL BAND WITH DAYNA GAYNOR BAND | 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, Epic Church, 1205 Broadway, Fountain Hill. Fill up on a double helping of smoking blues. The Minnesota Star Tribune has described headliner Nikki Hill as "If Tina Turner and Little Richard had a daughter and raised her with the help of uncles James Brown and Chuck Berry." With an endorsement such as that, there really is no reason to miss out. Tickets cost $25, $20 for 2nd Story Blues Alliance members. Information: 2sba.org

DON KINCAID | 7 p.m. Friday, The Inn at Millrace Pond, 313 Johnsonburg Road, Hope Twp. Start your weekend with singer-songwriter Don Kincaid as part of the WNTI Showcase Series. Cost is $5.

DAN DECHELLIS TRIO | 7:30 p.m. Friday, Foy Hall, Moravian College, 1200 Main St., Bethlehem. Local jazz pros Dan DeChellis Trio -- fronted by keyboardist extraordinaire Dan DeChellis, bassist Scot Hornick and drummer Tom Papadatos -- will celebrate the release of their latest album, Moving Mountains, with an evening of intimate jazz music. Moving Mountains will be available on CD and, in December, on vinyl. Information: moravian.edu

THE BASTARD SONS PRESENT ALLERS, HEDRINGTON, LANSING AND ROI | 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, Connexions Gallery, 213 Northampton St., Easton. Lehigh Valley-based singer-songwriters Carter Lansing (Acoustic Kitty Project) and Mike Roi (Roi and the Secret People) join Michael Allers and Jason Hedrington for a night of acoustic rock 'n' roll under the stars. And it's BYOB!

#TAKEBACKYOURVOICE FEATURING FLINTFACE | 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, State Theatre, 453 Northampton St., Easton. Singer-songwriter Flintface and his band headline the #TAKEBACKYOURVOICE anti-bullying fundraiser concert at the State Theatre. Student performers from around the Lehigh Valley will open the show, including: North Hunterdon High School Choir, Rhys Williams, Jameek Jones, Abby Illingworth, Julia Gross, Alyssa Garcia, Counting Clockwise, Blind Choice and Beautiful Oblivion. The Easton School of Rock Bank Street Band will rock the Easton Hospital Gallery during a pre-show performance, slated for 5:30 p.m. Tickets cost $21, $11 for students. Proceeds will benefit the annual Freddy Awards program. Information: statetheatre.org
