Seven things to do this weekend in the Lehigh Valley

October 30, 2015

Nothing to see, nowhere to go this weekend? Let me help you with that. Here are seven things to do this weekend in the Lehigh Valley:

1.) Punk spirit

Celebrate Halloween by returning to the pre-iPod days of the early 2000s with pop-punk rockers New Found Glory and Yellowcard, 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Sands Bethlehem Event Center in Bethlehem. Tickets cost $25. New Found Glory's hits include "Head-On Collision," "Hit or Miss" and "My Friends Over You." Yellowcard is best known for their single "Ocean Avenue." Information: sandseventcenter.com

2.) Jamming

Singer-songwriter, and one-man jam band, Keller Williams returns 9 tonight to Musikfest Cafe in Bethlehem. Tickets cost $20-$25. Information: steelstacks.org

3.) Halloween treats

Porters' Pub in Easton hosts its annual Halloween bash on Saturday. There will be pumpkin carving, bobbing for apples, a costume contest and, starting 10 p.m., live music by The Hairy Dudini Trio.

4.) This Way

This Way to the Egress, whose sound has been described as "old-timey roots cabaret" music performs 9:30 p.m. Saturday at The Funhouse in Bethlehem. The band will be joined by supporting act The Long Losts.

5.) Musical exploration

Support local, homegrown rock 'n' roll tonight at Pearly Baker's Alehouse in Easton, with a performance by the band Explorers and opening act, guitarist wizard Dave Cahill. Music starts at 10 o'clock. The Explorers will be unleashing new tunes, as well as cuts from their three EPs.

6.) 'Chicago' bound

The popular stage musical "Chicago" opens, for the first time, 8 tonight on Empie Theatre stage at Muhlenberg College in Allentown. Performances are also scheduled for 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1. The production runs through Nov. 8. Tickets cost $22. Information: muhlenberg.edu/theatre

7.) Superhero Saturday

Saturday is nationwide Halloween ComicFest. Participating Lehigh Valley comic book shops will be offering FREE (yes, free) HCF comic books. Titles include "Batman Adventures" No. 1, "Doctor Strange: The Oath" No. 1, "Sabrina" No. 1, "Harley Quinn Special Edition" No. 1 and lots more. Keep it local while supporting the art of comic books.
