10 things to do this weekend in the Lehigh Valley

August 6, 2015

Nothing to see, nowhere to go this weekend? Let me help you with that. Here are 10 things to do this weekend in the Lehigh Valley. (Editor's note: Musikfest starts Friday, Aug. 7, but you already knew that. There will be more Musikfest coverage throughout the coming week):

1.) Comedy triple threat

Comedians Liz Russo, Vladamir Caamano and Mike Gaffney headline the fourth annual Easton Comedy Show 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Riverside Park Amphitheater. The venue is located off of Larry Holmes Drive in Easton. Admission is free, but you must be 18 or older to attend.

2.) 'Beetlejuice' on the big screen

Director Tim Burton's horror comedy Beetlejuice -- starring Michael Keaton as the titular "ghost with the most," Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Catherine O'Hara and Winona Ryder -- will be shown midnight Friday, Aug. 7 (technically, 12 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8), at The Emmaus Theatre, 19 S. Fourth St., Emmaus. Cost is $8 and it's BYOB. Information: emmaustheatre.com

3.) Just peachy

Saturday, Aug. 8, is Peach Day at the Easton Farmers' Market in Easton's Centre Square. The market is open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Get your peach fix and, while you are there, watch Two Rivers Brewing Company master chef Jeremy Bialker prepare peach-glazed pork ribs. Yum. Information: eastonfarmersmarket.com

4.) Go for that

Hall and Oates tribute band HmfO return 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, to Bethlehem's The Funhouse, 5 E. Fourth St. Dance the night away to your favorite Hall and Oates hits, from "Maneater" to "You Make My Dreams" and everything in between. Five dollar cover charge at the door. Mustaches welcomed.

5.) Rock solid

The School of Rock's Bank Street Band on Friday, Aug. 7, heads to Valley Preferred Cycling Center in Upper Macungie Township. Show time is 6 p.m.

6.) Art-minded

Tanzanian artist Peter Ray Mwasha will share and discuss his art, which focuses on his Maasai heritage and its culture, 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at the RE:find gallery, 437 Northampton St., Easton.

7.) Quadruple the rock

The bands HORSE, Darsombra, Yottawatt and Highburnator will bring the noise 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, to St. Bernard's, 331-333 Brodhead Ave., in Bethlehem.

8.) Thunk hard

Dance rock group Thunk headlines Allentown's summer concert series 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at City Center Lehigh Valley, 645 Hamilton St., Allentown. Thunk features drummer Kevin Soffera, of Lower Nazareth Township, whose credits includes drumming for Breaking Benjamin and Seether. Get your groove on.

9.) Yetis in Emmaus

Rock bands Sailing Sweater & The Yetis invade the Emmaus VFW, 316 Main St., Emmaus, 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9. Support local music.

10.) Perfect Brew

Acoustic Kitty Project and Blue Heart's Revelry will share a bill Friday, Aug. 7, at Keystone Homebrew Supply, 128 E. Third St., Bethlehem. Sit back, relax and enjoy a full body pour of locally-sourced music that is a little bit country, a little bit rock 'n' roll, and a hell of a lot of fun.
