Phillipsburg Comic Con returning in May

Phillipsburg Comic Con will return in May to Phillpsburg High School.

The second annual comic book and pop culture event will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 14. The family-friendly convention will includes comic book vendors and appearances by industry professionals, including inker-artist Scott Hanna and his wife, fashion designer Pamela Ptak.

Hanna's credits include "Detective Comics,"."Amazing Spider-Man," "Avengers vs. X-Men" and "Batman & Robin Eternal." Ptak is a former contestant on the reality television series Project Runaway. The couple run the Arts & Fashion Institute in Riegelsville.

The guest list is rounded out by Brian Middleton, Edwin Huang, Darren Auck, Laura Lee Gulledge, Chris Giarrusso, Brendon Fraim, Brian Fraim and Soo Lee.

Cost is $5. Admission is free for children ages 10 and younger (with paid adult).

Guests will receive two free comic books and, while supplies last, a free copy of the 2015 Phillipsburg Comic Con exclusive print penciled by artist Rags Morales.

Seventy-five percent of proceeds will benefit the organization RAINN, which provides help to victims of rape and sexual abuse, according to the convention's website. Twenty-five percent of the proceeds will go toward purchasing books for comic book school electives and educational programming.
