Masked metal band Mushroomhead to rock Northampton

Mushroomhead is sprouting up in Northampton.

The masked heavy-metal band on May 8 will headline Northampton's Gin Mill & Grille, according to the venue's website. Doors will open at 5 p.m.

Tickets cost $16 (not including online fees) and can be purchased through ticketmaster.com and at the Gin Mill, 1750 Main St.

Mushroomhead's 2014 release, The Righteous & the Butterfly, was the group's first album to crack the top 20 of the Billboard 200 album chart and topped Billboard's Indie chart.

The band is the latest nationally-recognized recording artist to headline the Gin Mill & Grille. Trapt performed there in late February. Earlier in the month, Puddle of Mudd cut their set short after front-man Wes Scantlin began angrily berating the concert hall's sound technician during the band's performance, an act that was caught and shared on YouTube.

On April 28, hard rock outfit Saving Abel -- best know for their 2004 hit "Addicted" -- will headline the venue.
