Allentown Art Museum, Mercantile Home hosting new exhibitions this weekend

June 24, 2016

Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley this weekend will celebrate the contributions of Latino artists with the new exhibition, "Our America: Latino Presence in American Art."

The exhibition -- which features 89 works by 71 artists, on loan from the Smithsonian American Art Museum -- opens Sunday and runs through Oct. 2 in Trexler Hall and the Scheller, Rodale and Fowler galleries. As part of the opening festivities, Hector Rosado y Orquesta Hache will perform outside of the museum on Fifth Street (which will be closed to traffic that day).

Additionally, Sunday's event will include a 1 p.m. panel discussion with "Our America" artists. Museum admission will be free on Sunday, from noon to 4 p.m.

Also happening this weekend: Easton-based gallery and boutique shop Mercantile Home's latest collection, "Neon Summer," debuts Saturday.

"Neon Summer" features "art, objects and curiosities inspired by electric color and the rousing excitement of the season," according to a Facebook event page. Featured Lehigh Valley artists include Bill Barrell, Jackie Lima, Shalom Neuman and Reinaldo Valentin. The opening reception is set for 4 to 7 p.m. at the shop.

Allentown Art Museum is located at 31 N. Fifth St. Mercantile Home is located at 140 Northampton St.
