Seven things to do this weekend in the Lehigh Valley

August 26, 2016

If you live in the Lehigh Valley, then you should know there are a ridiculous amount of ways to not be bored during any given weekend.

Whether it's discovering your favorite new band, attending an art exhibition or simply being in the company of others while catching a flick, there is a plethora of ways to occupy your time.

Here are seven things to do this weekend:

1.) It's a 'Stick-Up'

The Alternative Gallery will host the Vintage Out Look "Stick Up" fashion show, 6 p.m. Saturday at its Allentown headquarters, 707 N. Fourth St. Check out designs by Vintage HomeBase, ABE, Como, SmallCircle, FreeFlow and Apex.

In addition to live music, the first 20 people through the door will receive a $5 gift card to one of the participating vendors.

2.) Somewhere outside of Barstow

Director Terry Gilliam's 1998 cult classsic Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas -- starring Johnny Depp as Hunter S. Thompson -- will be shown 9:30 tonight and Saturday at The Emmaus Theatre, 19 S. Fourth St., Emmaus.

Tickets cost $8. And it's BYOB.

3.) Goodbye, summer

The bands Elijah the Fly, Willing Tibet, Houston & The Dirty Rats and Chasing Down Sunset will cap the summer with a concert tonight at Phillipsburg Mall's Spin Me Round record store.

Show time is 8 o'clock. Oh, and it's free admission.

4.) Hot stuff

"Cars & Coffee" returns 9 a.m. Sunday to the SteelStacks complex in Bethlehem.

Sip on a cup o' Joe while drooling over rare, exotic and custom rides.

5.) 'Viva'

Allentown's Civic Theatre will screen the 2015 independent film Viva 7:30 p.m. Sunday as part of its LGBT Film Series.

Tickets cost $10, $8 for students and seniors.

6.) Latino love

The exhibition "Our America: The Latino Presence in American Art" this weekend and runs through Oct. 2 at the Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley, 31 N. Fifth St., Allentown.

Organized by the Smithsonian American Art Museum, "Our America" features works by Latino artists in the United States -- including pieces by artists of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban and Dominican descent. The exhibition is presented in the Scheller, Rodale and Fowler galleries and Trexler Hall.

7.) Quiche-y

Eclectic Performing Arts Company presents the comedy "5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche," 7 p.m. Saturday at the Unicorn Theatre, 417 Front St., Catasauqua.

"5 Lesbians" centers around five women who gather for their annual quiche breakfast, set against the backdrop of 1956 and Communist paranoia. The play is described as exploring the lengths women had to go to hide and/or suppress their sexuality in the 1950s.
