Bethlehem's Great White Caps reuniting for Asbury Park Surf Music Festival

January 26, 2017

Surf rock band Great White Caps will reunite this summer for a trip to the Jersey shore.

The Bethlehem-based quartet will perform Aug. 26 during the Asbury Park Surf Music Festival in Asbury Park, festival organizers announced Wednesday on Facebook. The festival will be held, starting noon, at The Anchor's Bend and the Grand Arcade at Convention Hall.

Tickets go on sale Friday. The full festival lineup will also be revealed that day.

The Great White Caps consists of vocalist-guitarist Ian "Montag the Magnificent" Hansson, guitarist Jesse "Warchild" Braun, bassist Nick "Sylvester Seaweed" Pokrivchak and drummer-vocalist Jon "Johnny Utah" Braun.

During their tenure together, the band became a popular draw in the Lehigh Valley before dissolving in 2014. They released two full-length albums in that time: Sting of Death and Screech Beach. The latter effort includes the single "Pacifico."

The Great White Caps released the single, "I'm Gonna Get Drunk for Christmas," in 2011. The group opened for influential surf rock band The Ventures in 2011 at Musikfest Cafe in Bethlehem.

Jon and Jesse Braun perform in local Talking Heads tribute band Start Making Sense; the former handles lead vocals and guitar for the ensemble, while the latter plays drums. The Braun brothers are also members of Hall and Oates tribute band HMFO.

Pokrivchak is a member of Lehigh Valley-based instrumental punk band Holy Toast.
