Allentown Fair announces John Mellencamp as first 2017 headliner

John Mellencamp will return this summer to Allentown, but he won't be playing center field.

The "Pink Houses" singer will headline the Great Allentown Fair on Aug. 31, according to the festival's website. Show time is 7 p.m.

Tickets, which cost $59-$89, go on sale 10 a.m. Feb. 17 through ticketmaster.com

In 2009, Mellencamp performed with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson at Allentown's Coca-Cola Park.

His hits include "Jack and Diane," "Hurts So Good," "I Need a Lover," "Small Town" and "Lonely Ol' Night." Mellencamp has released 22 studio albums, his most recent being 2014's Plain Spoken.

Mellencamp was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008 and is one of the founding members of the annual Farm Aid benefit concert.

John Mellencamp performs Pink Houses at Farm Aid 2016 at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia, on September 17. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers.
