Comedy legend John Cleese to appear at State Theatre for 'Monty Python' screening, Q&A

June 5, 2017

Legendary comedian John Cleese will appear Sept. 19 at the State Theatre in Easton for a screening of the influential Monty Python and the Holy Grail, officials announced Monday in a news release.

The 77-year-old Monty Python's Flying Circus star will participate in a question-and-answer session following the screening.

Tickets, which cost $70.50-$250, go on sale 10 a.m. Thursday  to State Theatre members and 10 a.m. June 15 to the public through statetheatre.org. Fans can also purchase tickets by calling 610-252-3132.

Cleese first gained international fame as a founding member of British comedy troupe Monty Python. The comedic ensemble starred in the popular sketch comedy series, Monty Python's Flying Circus, and produced the films And Now for Something Completely Different, Life of Brian and Meaning of Life.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail, arguably the group's most revered and influential film, has become a cult classic since its release in 1975. The film is also the basis for the Tony Award-winning Broadway show Spamalot. (Cleese provided the voice of the narrator for the production.)

Additionally, Cleese has appeared in such television shows as Cheers, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Will & Grace and the Emmy Award-nominated TLC series The Human Race with John Cleese.

This is the third such screening for the State Theatre. Director-actor Mel Brooks appeared in December 2016 for a Q&A and screening of Blazing Saddles; in February, the theater hosted actor Christopher Lloyd for a screening of Back to the Future.
