Actress Kate Micucci returning to Bethlehem for 'Unleashed' screening

August 25, 2017

Actress and Bushkill Township Kate Micucci will return to her native Lehigh Valley in September for a screening of her new film Unleashed.

Micucci will appear 5:30 and 8 p.m. Sept. 9 at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks' Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas, officials announced Wednesday. Both screenings will include a "talkback" session with the 1998 Nazareth Area High School graduate.

Unleashed is described in a news release as "the story of Micucci's Emma, a brilliant but awkward app designer, who moves to San Francisco after a massive betrayal by her boyfriend, with only her beloved pets, an adorable cat and energetic mut, in tow. One night, drawn by the light of a super moon, Emma's pets escape and are transformed into full-grown men, forcing Emma to reconsider her outlook on dating and hilariously work out her trust issues."

In August 2016, Micucci visited the ArtsQuest Center for a Q&A and screening of the indie flick Don't Think Twice. Don't Think Twice was directed by comedian-actor Mike Birbiglia, of Orange is the New Black fame.

Micucci's acting credits include co-starring in the former IFC comedy series Garfunkel and Oates, alongside comedian-actress Riki Lindhome. The show was based on Micucci and Lindhome's real-life music comedy duo of the same name. Garfunkel and Oates, the band, headlined ArtsQuest's Musikfest Cafe in 2012.

Micucci has also snagged recurring roles on the television series Scrubs, The Big Bang Theory and Raising Hope, and voiced the character Velma in the animated series Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! She appeared in the 2010 romantic comedy When in Rome, opposite Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel.
