ArtsQuest adds Hot Tuna, Jefferson Airplane guitarist Jorma Kaukonen to lineup

October 31, 2016

Hot Tuna and former Jefferson Airplane guitarist Jorma Kaukonen will stop in Bethlehem for a Dec. 11 concert at Musikfest Cafe, ArtsQuest officials announced Monday in a news release.

Show time is 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $29-$39 in advance, $32-$42 at the door.

Kaukonen's distinctive guitar sound can be heard on such Jefferson Airplane classics as "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit." Kaukonen and Jefferson Airplane bassist Jack Casady formed folk-blues outfit Hot Tuna in 1969.

Hot Tuna released its self-titled debut album -- a collection of live recordings culled from a 1969 residency in Berkeley, California -- in 1970.  They have since released 14 albums, including 2011's Steady as She Goes.

In addition to his work with Hot Tuna and Jefferson Airplane, Kaukonen has released 12 solo albums; the most recent of which is 2015's Ain't In No Hurry.

Kaukonen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 as a member of Jefferson Airplane. He is also the co-founder of the Fur Peach Ranch in Ohio music instruction camp and performance venue in southeastern Ohio.

Officials also announced Tuesday the addition of R&B singer-songwriter Marc Broussard, on Jan. 25. Show time is 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for Broussard cost $25-$32 in advance, $28-$35 at the door.

Broussard has toured with such artists as Maroon 5, Dave Matthews Band, Willie Nelson, O.A.R. and Bonnie Raitt. His latest full-length album, S.O.S. 2: Save Our Soul: Soul On a Mission features covers of Stevie Wonder and Wilson Pickett, among others.

Tickets for both show go on sale 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, to ArtsQuest members and 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, to the public through steelstacks.org. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 610-332-3378.
