Local Batman fans will have the chance to watch the animated film Batman: The Killing Joke on the big screen. But you will only have one night to get to the theater to see it.

The Carmike 16 movie theater in Allentown will show the film on July 25, at 7:30 and 10 p.m. The screening is part of a limited nationwide theatrical release.

Batman: The Killing Joke will be released digitally July 26; Aug. 2 on Blu-ray and DVD. The film reunites Batman: The Animated Series voice actors Kevin Conroy (Batman/Bruce Wayne) and Mark Hamill (The Joker). It is based on writer Alan Moore and artist Brian Bolland's critically-acclaimed 1988 graphic novel of the same name.

"The Killing Joke" raised eyebrows upon its release for its dark and graphic subject matter. In addition to serving as an origin story for The Joker, Barbara Gordon/Batgirl is shot point-blank by The Joker and becomes paralyzed as a result. There is also a sequence in which Commissioner Jim Gordon is kidnapped, stripped naked, chained to an amusement park ride and forced to view pictures of his wounded daughter, Barbara, in attempt by The Joker to be driven insane.
