Six things to do this weekend in the Lehigh Valley

August 19, 2016

If you live in the Lehigh Valley, then you should know there are a ridiculous amount of ways to not be bored during any given weekend. That goes double for the summer season.

Whether it's discovering your favorite new band, attending an art exhibition or simply being in the company of others while shopping for fresh veggies, there is a plethora of ways to occupy your time.

Here are six things to do this weekend:

1.) Midwest Connexions

Hailing from Iowa, baritone saxophonist Curt Oren tonight brings Midwestern soul to downtown Easton. Oren will team up with singer-guitarist Nora Petran for an intimate performance at Connexions Gallery, 213 Northampton St.

Show time is 7 o'clock. The event is BYOB.

2.) Say Tomato

Saturday is Tomato Day at the Easton Farmers' Market in Centre Square. The day will feature such tomato-centric fare as fried green tomatoes, a Bloody Mary Garden, an heirloom tomato tasting and seed distribution presentation by the Penn State Master Gardeners.

Plus, music will be provided by country-folk group Blue Heart's Revelry.

3.) Veg out

The annual Bethlehem VegFest returns 11 a.m. Saturday to the South Bethlehem Greenway in SouthSide Bethlehem. The event runs until 6 p.m.

The vegan food festival will feature cooking demonstrations, guest speakers, live music and more than 100 food, small business and craft vendors.

4.) All that jazz

The Sugar Hill Jazz House will celebrate its grand opening 5 p.m. Saturday at its new Allentown location, 39 S. Ninth St.

In addition to live music, there will a "Feathers and Fedoras" attire contest.

5.) Subhah set

Comedian Subhah Agarwal on Saturday will headline The Emmaus Theatre, 19 S. Fourth St., Emmaus. Admission costs $10.

Agarwal, who will be joined by opener Paul Spratt, has appeared on Comedy Central, truTV and Fusion TV. She also stars in the Music Choice show Questionable Choices.

6.) Fired up

Small Axe -- made up of singer-guitarist Scott Harrington and percussionist-vocalist Chris Long -- perform tonight at Easton's Stoke Coal Fire Pizza, 1 Lehns Ct.

Enjoy a pint and a pie while imbibing in sweet acoustic reggae jams.
