A group of Easton area community theater actors are hoping to bring a bit of Broadway dazzle back to downtown Easton.

The Easton Theatre Co-Op will perform its first show Aug. 27 at The Pomfret Club. A cocktail hour from 7 to 8 p.m. will precede the performance. Show time is 8 p.m.

Easton Theatre Co-Op founder and president Jim Vivian said "Broadway Cabaret!" will feature its 12 member-ensemble performing a variety of familiar numbers ranging from "Guys and Dolls" to "Jersey Boys" and "Scarlet Pimpernel."

"They're all veterans. They all know what they're doing and know how to work a crowd," Vivian said Thursday during a phone interview.

Vivian said the troupe is planning to utilize Easton-based Third Street Alliance for Women & Children's indoor stage as its headquarters for future performances.

The partnership turned out to be a case of perfect timing, Vivian said. "I guess it was fate. Third Street was looking for a theater company to use their stage that was being unused. I really wanted to be in Easton, in the city," he said. "You help the arts community and at the same time help a nonprofit that helps women and children."

The formation of the Easton Theatre Co-Op fills a void left by the former Easton-based Chansonnette Theatre, Vivian said. (Chansonnette's most recent production was 2013's "Storybrook Breakfast with Characters" in Forks Township.) Vivian, a lifelong fan of community theater, said he used to be involved with Chansonnette but eventually left as the number of its shows began to dwindle.

The new theater group -- which Vivian said held its first meeting in January -- will also perform during the annual Riverside Festival of the Arts in Easton. They have shows lined up for Oct. 22 and 23 at Third Street Alliance.

The Third Street Alliance performances, Vivian said, will be split into two parts: a handful of comedic shorts and an original musical farce he composed, titled "The Von Trump Family Cabaret."

"Our goal is to do two shows a year, either a straight plays or musical comedies, one in the spring and one in the fall. We'll throw in some cabaret (shows) here and there," Vivian said.

The Easton Theatre Co-Op performs 8 p.m. Aug. 27 at The Pomfret Club, 33 S. Fourth St., Easton. Tickets cost $20. A cocktail hour will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. eastontheatrecoop.org
