10 things to do this weekend in the Lehigh Valley

October 15, 2015

Nothing to see, nowhere to go this weekend? Let me help you with that. Here are 10 things to do this weekend in the Lehigh Valley:

1.) Beatles love

Lehigh Valley Beatles Showcase IV is 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, at Musikfest Cafe in Bethlehem. The annual tribute to the Fab Four will feature local singers and musicians tipping their musical hat to the iconic English rock band. Scheduled performers are: the Lou Franco Project with Allie Santos, John Cannavo, Henry Callie and Connie Edinger; The Large Flowerheads; Billy Patrick with Lori Donovan Roberts and Chris Eichlin; Scott Marshall and Hillbilly Souls; School of Rock; James Supra and Sarah Ayers Quartet with special guests; Jordan Kenzie, June Thomas and Kayla Avitabile and Taylor Ash. Tickets cost $24-$29 in advance, $29-$35 at the door. Information: steelstacks.org

2.) 'Family' values

"The Addams Family" opens 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Country Gate Playhouse in Belvidere. Additional performances will be held 2 p.m. Sunday and Oct. 25; 8 p.m. Oct. 23 and 24. Tickets and information: countrygateplayers.org

3.) Artsy in Allentown

An artist's reception for the Allentown Art Collective -- a group of artists whose talents extend to music, writing, dance and visual arts -- is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at Civic Theatre's Theatre 514 in Allentown. Information: civictheatre.com

4.) Hullabullubula 2

"Hullabullubula 2: The Revenging of ArtFest 2015 Halloween-ish Version" -- which earns the distinct, and highly coveted, gold star for longest/coolest event name on my Facebook news feed -- is 8 p.m. Saturday at The Alternative Gallery in Allentown. The mini festival will feature music, comedy and more -- including performances by the bands King Dead and Silent Animals, comedians Ian Webster, Kenan Jerome Floyd and LeMaire Lee, hip-hop duo Soulfood, hip-hop collective Gaws and singer-songwriter Leo Motolese. Keep it local, keep it underground.

5.) Pat's back

Singer Pat Benatar and her husband, guitarist Neil Giraldo, return to Bethlehem 8 p.m. Saturday for an acoustic performance of their biggest hits. Hear "Heartbreaker," "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" and other cuts in all of their stripped-down glory. Tickets cost $45-$55. Information: sandseventcenter.com

6.) Smith salute

The Mahoning Drive-In Theatre in Lehighton will salute the work of filmmaker, and New Jersey native, Kevin Smith, Friday and Saturday with a triple screening of Mallrats, Chasing Amy and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Prizes will be awarded for those who show up in costume. Screenings will start at dusk both nights. Cost is $10, $7 for children. Information: mahoningdit.com

7.) Whisky weekend

Fegley's Brew Works' sixth annual Whisky Fest is 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Allentown Brew Works in Allentown. Sample whiskeys, bourbons and scotches along with Southern-inspired food samplings and barrel-aged craft beers. Tickets cost $50 each at the door; designated driver tickets cost $25 each. Information: thebrewworks.com

8.) Reggae music

Start your weekend on a groovy note with reggae band Redwood, 10 p.m. Friday at Pearly Baker's Alehouse in Easton.

9.) Movie magic

Take a magical mental broom ride back to the year 1993 by taking in a screening of the Bette Midler family Halloween film "Hocus Pocus," 4 p.m. Saturday at The Emmaus Theatre in Emmaus. Admission is free. Information: emmaustheatre.com

10.) House call

Easton's Ahlum Gallery's Fall Open House is 11 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Explore Downtown Easton and see what's on display.
