State Theatre reaches goal for 'Get Plastered' fundraiser campaign

April 13, 2016

The building once nicknamed "Plaster Palace" will get its touch-up.

Easton's State Theatre announced Tuesday it has reached its goal of $70,000 for its 2015-16 year-end "Get Plastered" fundraising campaign. The campaign was launched in November.

The money will go toward restoring the venue's decorative plasterwork that was damaged by a leaky roof. The roof that was repaired in 2015 through the theater's "Raise the Roof" fundraiser initiative.

In addition to $2,196 raised through the "Easton Rocks!" fundraiser concert, donations were collected from patrons during show nights and through the State Theatre's website, according to a news release. The County of Northampton in January matched the contributions with a $46,546 donation through a hotel tax grant, according to a April 8 LehighValleyLive.com article.

"We are both honored and inspired by the caring generosity of that our community has shown for our beautiful building," Denise Smith, State Theatre Vice President of Development, says in the release. "The State Theatre is truly a gem that enhances the quality of life in the Lehigh Valley and beyond, and we could not maintain the pristine condition of our national historic treasure if it were not for the support of so many people and organizations in the Lehigh Valley. We are deeply grateful."
